Match issued shirt Lazio Roma Marcelo Salas

This match issued S.S. Lazio home jersey from the late 1990s, with the number 9, belonged to Chilean striker Marcelo Salas.  Marcelo Salas is a former Chilean striker and one of the greatest footballers in his country’s history. Nicknamed “El Matador,” he starred for Universidad de Chile, River Plate, Lazio and Juventus. He won major trophies in Argentina and Italy and became famous for his goalscoring ability and powerful finishing. Salas earned 70 caps for Chile, scoring 37 goals, and is regarded as one of Chile’s all-time football legends.

This shirt comes from the private collection of our matchmaker Peter van Vossen, who donated the shirt to FC Robinstijn. The shirt has been swapped by Peter with Maurizio Salas after one of the two Champions League matches between their clubs Feyenoord and Lazio during the 1999-2000 season. Peter van Vossen (born in 1968) is a former Dutch football striker known for his pace, determination, and goal-scoring ability. During his career, he played for clubs including VC Vlissingen, Beveren, Anderlecht, Ajax, Rangers, Feyenoord, De Graafschap, and Vitesse. He won the UEFA Champions League with Ajax in 1995 and later became Dutch champion with Feyenoord. For the Netherlands national team, he earned 31 caps and scored 9 goals, representing his country at the 1994 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2000.
