A shirt from Naples, with a message for Rotterdam!
This SSC Napoli home shirt from the 2017-18 season is no ordinary shirt. It is a shirt that belonged to Dries Mertens — the little Belgian genius who became Napoli's all-time top scorer and a true legend in the city. Mertens rose to fame in Dutch football with AGOVV, FC Utrecht and PSV before moving to Naples, where under Maurizio Sarri he was reinvented as a centre-forward. In the 2017-18 Champions League, Napoli were drawn in a group with Manchester City, Shakhtar Donetsk and Feyenoord. Mertens scored in the 3-1 home win over the Dutch champions in Naples and played the full ninety minutes in the return match at De Kuip. This shirt, prepared for Europe's biggest stage, comes from the personal collection of Jan Wouters, the Dutch football icon and European champion of 1988. Wouters was assistant coach at FC Utrecht when Mertens played there, and was part of Feyenoord's coaching staff during these Champions League meetings. On the number, Mertens wrote a personal message in Dutch to his former coach: "Coach, bedankt voor alles!" ("Coach, thanks for everything!").
The shirt is in good condition, worn and used, with a personal handwritten dedication on the back. All details remain intact, including the Kappa branding, the Napoli club crest, the "Lete" front sponsor, and the UEFA Respect badge. An FC Robinstijn authenticity certificate is included, giving you as the buyer the assurance that you are receiving a genuine item.
